No Pressure, Just Enjoy!

Working in a wine space gives you a front-row seat to people’s relationship with wine. At Brix, I see it daily. Guests walk in curious, excited, and then suddenly cautious. They lower their voice when ordering. They preface their choice with “I know this isn’t fancy” or “don’t judge me, but…”
That hesitation says more about wine culture than it does about the guest.
People often arrive already knowing what they like. A certain grape. A familiar flavor. A style that feels good to them. Yet somewhere between the menu and the glass, they start questioning themselves. They’ve been told there’s a correct choice. A better choice. A more impressive choice.
At Brix, the best moments happen when that pressure disappears. When someone orders what they actually enjoy and relaxes into it. When the conversation shifts from rules to stories. When wine becomes part of the moment instead of the focus of it.
I also see the opposite. Guests forcing themselves into glasses they don’t enjoy because they think they should. They drink less. They disconnect. Wine becomes something to tolerate rather than something to savor.
Wine was never meant to feel intimidating. It’s meant to feel human. It’s meant to meet you where you are, not test you on how much you know.
Liking sweet wine doesn’t mean you lack taste. Ordering the same grape every time doesn’t mean you aren’t adventurous. Confidence in your preference is not a flaw. It’s clarity.
At Brix, we try to create space for people to trust themselves again. To explore without pressure. To enjoy wine without explanation or apology. When people drink what they like, the experience changes. They stay longer. They connect more. They come back.
That’s what wine is supposed to do.
If the glass in front of you makes you pause, smile, and take another sip, you made the right choice.
